We’re happy to announce the hiring of Daniel Stuart as senior vice president, business affairs, United States. Based in AWAL’s Los Angeles office, Daniel will oversee AWAL’s U.S.-based legal affairs activities, which include the negotiation of AWAL’s agreements with its clients, distributors and vendors, and the development and implementation of new business affairs initiatives and strategies.

Lonny Olinick, AWAL CEO commented, “We spent significant time looking for the right person to lead AWAL’s U.S. BA team. Daniel’s impressive background representing music industry talent and his artist-first approach made him the perfect fit to support our mission of putting artists at the center of today’s music industry. We’re proud to welcome him to the team.”

For more than twenty years, Daniel has represented a dynamic mix of emerging and A-list music industry talent, entrepreneurs and companies for firms such as King, Holmes, Paterno & Soriano; Manatt, and Phelps & Phillips. Long an advocate for artists, Daniel penned the first draft of California’s current Coogan Law during his first years as a lawyer. He is a published author and, prior to practicing law, Daniel spent several years as a music broadcast journalist, most notably as the editor of the acclaimed national urban radio program “RadioScope”, the creator of “The Hip-Hop Countdown & Report”, and landmark radio documentary “Marvin Gaye: We Miss You.”

US General Counsel Jim Arnay added, “Dan’s experience and relationships make him a perfect fit for this important role. We are thrilled to welcome Dan to the Kobalt family.”

“I’ve long considered Kobalt and AWAL to be on the leading edge of artist-friendly innovation in the music industry,” said Stuart. “I am beyond excited to become a key part of their team and contribute to their mission to reshape the business by putting artists first.”
